The Fort Garry Horse is an Armoured Cavalry unit in the Canadian Army Reserve based at Lieutenant-Colonel Harcus Strachan, VC, MC Armoury (formerly named McGregor Armoury) in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
As an Armoured Cavalry Regiment, part of 38 Canadian Brigade Group, our role is to find, shape and defeat the enemy through the aggressive use of firepower and mobility. To do this we use light, highly mobile vehicles and wheeled armoured vehicles in conjunction with communications and surveillance equipment.
The Fort Garry Horse is recruiting now. Challenging and rewarding part-time employment, with full-time summer employment is available. See Recruiting Information to find out more.
Co-located with us at the Armoury is 31 Engineer Squadron, part of 38 Combat Engineer Regiment. 31 ES was formed within the FGH, and became an independent unit on 14 April 2012. There is a historic connection between the Garrys and Engineers, detailed in the 1942-46 History section.
Look around a while. There is a lot of information about the FGH past and present in these pages.
